You didn't say it was a 'mastic' type of compound - so it will probably dry
rather quickly if you have spread it thinly on the pipe that you are
sealing - may not last too long though in that situation!
This stuff is usually designed to be applied with a minimum bead thickness
(around 6mm) so that it forms a 'skin' on the outside but remains flexible
under that 'skin' (to keep the seal water tight under during and movement) -
and the 'skin' will usually form well within the hour.
By the way, don't "eat [your] feckin shorts", recycle them and use 'em to
wipe the sealant off your hands. :-)
