Not where I've worked. What is needed is a fire separation envelope. In
you case this would likely be one layer of 5/8" type X sheetrock with tapes
set on the ceiling, and all exposed penetrations to the house plugged with a
rated sealant. Any doorway to the house would have to be rated as well.
Another requirement is a "curb" eg a minimum 3"-4" elevation rise from the
garage floor to adjacent living paces at doorways.
